Frequently Asked Questions
Is True Food Kitchen a health food restaurant?
Although our menu is nutritious, we are not a health food restaurant. We start with great-tasting, flavorful recipes that appeal to everyone. Then, we skillfully incorporate fresh, tasty, nutritious ingredients into each recipe in a way that flavor is actually enhanced – never sacrificed. That’s the difference at True Food Kitchen. You’ll eat right and actually enjoy the food!
What nutritional philosophy is your menu based on?
The menu at True Food Kitchen supports Dr. Andrew Weil’s Anti-Inflammatory Food Pyramid™. While our recipes feature the freshest fruits and vegetables, whole grains, nutritious pastas and beans, healthy fats, soy protein, seafood and lean meat and poultry, we never skimp on flavor. After all, if it doesn’t taste good and leave you feeling satisfied, why bother?
Is everything on the menu organic?
When making the decision on whether or not to buy organic, we pay strict attention to Dr. Andrew Weil’s Dirty Dozen list. If it’s on this list, we always choose organic. All liquid dairy products (milk, sour cream, yogurt, etc.) are organic. On the flip side, we also take note of the Clean 15 list. If we had to choose between buying non-organic local or organic non-local for any of these items, we typically would choose to buy these items locally whether they are organic or not.
How often does your menu change?
Since we use locally grown produce as often as possible, our menu changes frequently with the seasons. When you start with the freshest, highest quality ingredients around, everything tastes better and is better for you.
What type of meat and seafood do you offer?
Our seafood is wild or sustainably harvested; in fact, our Black Cod from Alaska has more Omega-3s than salmon. Plus, we use natural, hormone and antibiotic-free chicken, turkey and natural angus beef.
What special diet options are available?
We created a menu for everyone that enjoys fresh, tasty food. For those with special dietary needs, we offer vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free items. Don’t care for mushrooms? Prefer soba noodles instead of rice? We can substitute or adapt items to your liking upon request.
What type of oils do you use?
We use healthy fats like extra virgin olive oil and expellier pressed canola oil. When we do use butter, it is organic and we use a very small amount.
What is Olivello Juice?
True Food Kitchen is the only restaurant in the nation to provide Olivello Juice, an extract from sea buckthorn berries. Olivello is full of powerful natural anti-oxidants and other protective phytonutrients. (We offer Olivello in Andy’s Elixir, Medicine Man, and Orange Olivello Sorbet with Fresh Berries.)
How is it that you offer pizza, pasta and pancakes on your menu?
Our pizza crusts and pita breads are made in-house with organic flour, spelt and flax seed. Most of our pastas are wheat free and made from brown and white rice. And our tasty Blueberry Quinoa Johnny Cakes are made with quinoa, an ancient grain what is very high in protein. We top them with organic Greek yogurt and real maple syrup.
Do you offer alcoholic beverages?
What is life without a cocktail or glass of wine every now and then? True Food Kitchen offers a variety of unique and refreshing cocktails plus a diverse selection of affordable biodynamically, organically and sustainably farmed wine.
What types of sweeteners are available?
Our house-made natural sodas and fresh juice drinks are sweetened with either agave nectar or honey, they are full of health-protective compounds and have less impact on blood sugar. For those seeking a noncaloric sweetener, we offer erythritol, a natural alternative that will not undermine your health.
Do you provide space for private parties and special events?
Yes we do! Click here for details.
Where can I find recipes?
Most of our recipes are proprietary; however, we do offer a few of our recipes on our recipes page. We also share recipes from time to time on our Facebook page and via our VIP EClub
Are you planning to open more locations in other states?
True Food Kitchen is growing! We are opening our third California location in 2012.
